Product Description

How does Cerazette work?

Cerazette works by blocking the sperm cells from entering the womb, as well as preventing the egg cell from ripening. This medication protects women against pregnancy as it contains the female sex hormone, progestogen desogestrel.

Benefits of using Cerazette:

Using Cerazette can prevent women from facing unwanted pregnancies, allowing them more freedom in their daily and sex lives. Because of the hormones that Cerazette contains, it can also be used to regulate menstrual cycles, and stop symptoms all together for those who suffer with their periods.

When it comes to contraceptive pills, there are 2 different types, the combined pill and the progestogen-only pill. Cerazette fits into the latter category and its lack of the oestrogen hormone, makes it a great choice for women who do not tolerate it, or those who are breastfeeding.

Cerazette not only prevents the sperm cells from entering the womb, but it also mostly prevents the egg from ripening, meaning it serves as a highly effective contraception.

How to use Cerazette:

Cerazette should always be used by following the advice of your doctor and the instructions on the patient information leaflet, as it is a prescription only medication. Always take this medication with water.

If you are not currently using hormonal contraception, then you should wait for the first day of your period to begin until you take the first tablet. If you are currently using a different contraceptive pill, then you should take your first Cerazette tablet the day after taking the last tablet from your current pack. If you do not start taking Cerazette on these timelines, you may end up having a few pill-free days, if this is the case, it is important to ensure you use additional contraceptives during these days to prevent you getting pregnant.

For women who have recently gave birth and are looking to start taking Cerazette, you can start using the tablets as per guidelines between 21 and 28 days after giving birth. If you are breastfeeding or have recently suffered from a miscarriage or had an abortion, you should consult your doctor before using Cerazette.

The packets that contain Cerazette are clearly labelled with the days of the week and arrows to guide the users on the direction of use. You should select your first pill based on the first day of the week that you are taking the medication. Follow the directions on the packet. Take one tablet a day until the pack is empty and then start the next pack the following day without having a break.

Cerazette Dosage:

This medication comes as 75 microgram film coated tablets that contain desogestrel, and those using it should take one tablet a day at approximately the same time each day.

If you miss a pill and realise within 12 hours of the time you were supposed to take it, you should take it as soon as you remember, and then take the next one at the normal time. You will be protected against a pregnancy within this timeframe. If you forget to take the medication and remember after 12 hours, you should still take the pill as soon as you remember and then take the one the next day at the regular time, but you should use additional contraception for the next 7 days as you may not be completely protected against pregnancy.

If you vomit or suffer from diarrhoea within 3-4 hours after taking the medication, you should follow the same advice as for forgotten tablets and use extra contraception when necessary, as the active ingredient may not have been completely absorbed.
