How does Telfast work?

Telfast is an antihistamine. Histamine is produced by your body as a response to an allergen or perceived threat, causing many symptoms that are associated with allergies, like a runny nose, puffy eyes, itching and sneezing, to name just a few. Whilst your body is trying to protect you by making these histamines, it can cause some unpleasant symptoms and be quite uncomfortable to live with.

In hay fever, histamines cause you to have itchy eyes, runny nose, and cause sneezing. In allergic skin conditions, histamines cause the skin to become itchy and inflamed. Telfast relieves these symptoms.

How do you take Telfast?

Telfast most commonly comes as 180mg tablets and can be bought from your GP, online, or pharmacies.

Telfast is most commonly taken as a once-a-day tablet and can be taken with or without food.

Tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water and can be taken with or without food and drink.

Can I drive while using Telfast?

Although normally Telfast is generally a non-drowsy antihistamine, meaning you should be safe to drive while taking the medication, there are sometimes a few side effects that can include fatigue. It is important to always make sure you know how Telfast affects you before driving while using it. If you feel tired, drowsy, dizzy, confused, or just generally unwell, you should avoid driving until you feel better.

Are there any side effects of Telfast?

Although many side effects are mild, some people do experience symptoms associated with taking Telfast. However, most people who suffer from the side effects find that they would rather live with the side effects than live with the condition that the Telfast treats. We are going to list some of the common side effects that are associated with the medication, though you should always read the patient information leaflet to familiarise yourself with all of the possible symptoms. The most commonly reported side-affects are:

• Headaches
• Drowsiness
• Nausea
• Dizziness

There are other side effects but these are less common. You should let your GP know if you experience any other side effects.

Can I take Telfast?

Luckily, this is a medication that is generally well-tolerated, meaning that only people with severe disorders or certain allergies to ingredients that may be contained in the medication should avoid it. Telfast can be harmful to take if you suffer from certain conditions, some of which include:

• Kidney problems
• Liver problems
• Previously or currently experience heart disease
• Pregnant or breastfeeding
• Elderly

Telfast should be used when over the age of 12 if you are using it to treat skin allergies but can be used from the age of 6 if being used to treat hay fever.
