Product Description

How does Sodium Cromoglicate work?

Sodium Cromoglicate is an anti-allergy treatment that is known as a mast cell stabiliser. The medication works by releasing natural substances in your eyes which lead to allergic reactions. Allergy symptoms in your eyes are caused mainly by histamine which is a natural substance. When you are exposed to certain allergens like pollen, the natural substance known as histamine sends a message to different parts of your body, instructing them to remove the allergens in the body as soon as possible. The response to this and the allergens being removed is what results in symptoms such as itchy eyes.

Sodium Cromoglicate stabilises the cells in the body and treats allergic reactions in the eyes caused by pollen, which only occurs in certain seasons throughout the year. This medication can also treat allergic reactions that take place to allergens that you can be exposed to throughout the whole of the year.

How do I use the Sodium Cromoglicate eye drops?

The standard recommended adult dosage for Sodium Cromoglicate eye drops is to administer one or two drops in each eye four times a day. Your doctor will advise you on the number of drops to use every time you use the eye drops and this will differ depending on the severity of your symptoms. Always follow the doctor’s instructions.

MedsRUs will supply you with a patient application leaflet which tells you how to use the eye drops properly, and you can also refer back to this if you are unsure about anything.

If your allergy symptoms do not improve when using this medication, be sure to get in touch with your GP as soon as possible. If you forget about taking a dose of medicine then take it as soon as you can, but if you are close to your next scheduled dosage, leave the one that you forgot about and carry on from your next scheduled application.

Side effects:

Like all medications, Sodium Cromoglicate comes with a few potential side effects, some more common than others. There is the possibility that Sodium Cromoglicate could cause mild irritation to your eyes or blurring of your eyesight. If you do experience any of these symptoms it will usually only be for a short period just after the application.

However, if the symptoms last a few days or are becoming more severe, you should contact a doctor or your GP as soon as possible. Seek medical advice immediately if you are experiencing itchiness, redness and watering in your eyes which is progressively getting worse.

Who can use Sodium Cromoglicate?

Sodium Cromoglicate can be used by adults or children over the age of 6 years old who are suffering from hay fever symptoms or other allergies that can irritate the eye. There are some circumstances where you will have to take a lot of care when using these eye drops.

It is recommended that people who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or using other medications should inform their GP or pharmacist before using Sodium Cromoglicate. If you commonly use contact lenses, you should avoid wearing them when using Sodium Cromoglicate eye drops.
