Doxycycline is a bacteriostatic medication and belongs to a group of medications called antibiotics. This medication is a broad-spectrum antibiotic which means that it is effective on a wide range of bacteria. Although Doxycycline can be used to treat a wide range of infections such as cholera, periodontal disease, and infections of the respiratory tract, it is most commonly used to prevent malaria when travelling to high-risk countries.

Malaria

Malaria is a mosquito-borne life-threatening disease which can affect humans and animals. It causes a high fever, fatigue, vomiting and headaches. In the most severe cases, it can cause the skin to yellow, induce seizures or comas, or even lead to death. If you think you have contracted malaria from a mosquito bite you must contact the nearest emergency service as soon as possible. However, malaria can be prevented through several medications.
